LAGOSANTO

Where is located

The municipality of Lagosanto lies in the easternmost part of the province of Ferrara, just a few kilometres from Comacchio and its valleys.

When to go and what to see

Of unknown origins, but probably pre-Roman and linked to the nearby Spina, this centre rose as Lago and became Lagosanto around the year 1000 for having been the home of a Benedictine monk, St. Appiano, who lived and died here. The life of Lagosanto, like that of all the nearby town centres, was influenced by the land reclamation, which transformed it into an agricultural centre and profoundly modified its territory

Main events

Every year in May, Lagosanto becomes the capital city of juicy and perfumed strawberries, with the Strawberry Festival. The symbol of Lagosanto for many years, more than 90% of the strawberries produced in Italy come from this town.
