BASILICA OF SAN'APOLLIARE IN CLASSE
Dedicated to St Apollinaris, the first bishop of Ravenna, on the site of his martyrdom and where some parts of his remains lie, the basilica has been included in the list of Italian UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1996, within the serial site entitled 'Early Christian Monuments of Ravenna'. It is the most imposing and majestic of the basilicas in Ravenna, especially for its cycle of mosaics, which defy those of the city's other churches in terms of beauty, with the extraordinary decoration of the apsidal basin dating back to around the mid-6th century. Next to the basilica are the excavations of the large archaeological area of the ancient city of Classe, seat of the Roman fleet in the Adriatic Sea.
INFORMAZIONI ACCESSIBILITA'
L’ampio parcheggio dispone di posti auto riservati a titolari di CUDE (Contrassegno Unico Disabili Europeo). Dal parcheggio, con percorso pedonale protetto di circa 250 metri, si raggiunge la Basilica (gli ultimi 10 metri sono in pavimentazione lastricata sconnessa). Superando rampe si raggiungono la Biglietteria/Bookshop e la Basilica. A metà strada, tra il parcheggio e la Basilica, è disponibile un servizio igienico attrezzato, con gradino di 3 cm, dove per l’accesso è richiesto il pagamento di 0,50 centesimi alla biglietteria automatica.
