THE WONDERS OF COMACCHIO
THE MANIFATTURA DEI MARINATI (COMACCHIO VALLEY HISTORICAL FISH PROCESSING PLANT AND ECOMUSEUM)
The ancient “Manifattura dei Marinati” is an important part of Comacchio valley history because it revived the entire processing cycle of eel and smelt. The historical Comacchio-based "Valley Municipal Company" carried out its functions in three fundamental areas: fish processing in the valley wetlands and fishing; surveillance against poaching alongside internal administration and fish marketing. From the early decades of the 20th century, the company also managed a fish processing plant, an activity previously carried out by a myriad of private individuals. Thus, the “Manifattura dei Marinati” was founded, where the entire fish processing cycle was carried out. The plant, that had fallen into disuse in the early 1990s, has returned to its original splendour and today, it is not only a plant that is active for a few months a year but also an ecomuseum, as it bears witness to a historical itinerary.

THE MUSEO DELTA ANTICO (ANCIENT DELTA MUSEUM)
In the splendid setting of the 18th-century Ospedale degli Infermi (Hospital for the Sick) lies the Museo Delta Antico (Ancient Delta Museum), a recently-opened archaeological museum. It houses a rich heritage of archaeological finds from the local area, dating back to the earliest protohistoric period up to the Middle Ages. Approximately 2,000 exhibits tell the story of the ancient mouth of the River Po which, with its numerous navigable canals and land routes, has been an important trade and civilisation hub for centuries, linking the Mediterranean world to continental Europe. Particularly worthy of note are the sections devoted to the Etruscan town of Spina, with artifacts from the town and rich grave goods, the Roman world, and the origins of Comacchio in the early Middle Ages as a commercial emporium and bishop's seat. The precious cargo of the Roman ship of Comacchio, an authentic Pompeii of the sea that is a cross-section of the globalised world of the Roman Empire, has been transferred to the museum with a new evocative layout.

THE TREPPONTI BRIDGE
The Trepponti architectural complex is the most well-known symbol and the most representative bridge of the lagoon city of Comacchio and it is its most representative landmark. It is also known as Ponte Pallotta ('Pallotta Bridge') as it stands along the ancient navigable Pallotta Canal, which led to the Adriatic Sea and was the fortified gateway to the town.
It was built in 1638 by the Ravenna architect Luca Danese and consists of five wide brickwork staircases culminating in a raised part made of Istrian stone. Below its single arch terminates the navigable Pallotta canal that stretches out through the historic centre to form four different canals known as Salara, Sant'Agostino, Borgo and San Pietro.
THE CASA MUSEO REMO BRINDISI (REMO BRINDISI HOUSE MUSEUM)
Unknown to most people, the "Casa Museo Remo Brindisi - Arte & Design del Novecento” (Remo Brindisi - 20th century Art & Design House Museum) is located a few kilometres from Comacchio, in Lido di Spina. It is a modern structure that the master Remo Brindisi used during the summer months, commissioning its design from the architect-designer Nanda Vigo.
The house-museum is both a true manifesto of the integration of the arts - architecture, sculpture, painting, design -, of the fusion of art and life, and of a free and democratic approach to art. The museum collection includes masters of extraordinary calibre such as Alberto Savinio, Mario Sironi, Giacomo Balla, Arturo Martini, Filippo De Pisis and Andy Warhol, among many others.
