THE ECOMUSEUM OF MARSH GRASSES

Villanova di Bagnacavallo was once part of a complex territorial system of waterways and wetlands. The first inhabitants of these places took advantage of the modest resources that the environment offered them, starting the collection and processing of wild herbs which they used to make various types of handicrafts. Over the years, this original form of craftsmanship developed to become one of the main economic enterprises in the area between the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Ecomuseo delle Erbe Palustri (the Ecomuseum of Marsh Grasses) preserves the memory of that know-how as well as that productive season and documents the environmental and economic context in which the village lived. The museum itinerary winds its way through environmental reconstructions, multimedia supports and accounts of community life. The Ecomuseum is part of the Municipal Museums of Bagnacavallo.
